My Story
I wrote In the Spirit of Ronald E. McNair: Astronaut because no one knew my brother Ron like I did. Born just ten months apart, we were classmates, roommates, and best friends—sharing stories, struggles, and dreams from childhood into adulthood. I was the one who had the honor of calling to say, “Ron, you’ve been selected by NASA.” That moment changed both our lives.
Ron’s rise from a small Southern town to becoming one of NASA’s first Black astronauts was extraordinary. But what defined him most was his relentless drive, humility, and belief that barriers were meant to be broken. When the Challenger tragedy took him from us, I made it my mission to ensure his legacy would live on.
This book is more than a tribute—it’s a call to dream boldly and lead with purpose. That mission has shaped my life’s work. As founder of McNair Achievement Programs, I’ve helped students across the country realize their potential. With degrees from North Carolina A&T and Babson College, and the honor of receiving the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, I continue to carry Ron’s spirit forward—championing a future where every dream has a chance to soar.
